Just like our student organizations, School of Journalism faculty are embracing Journalism Week 2008, making it a part of the week’s in-class curriculum. Below are a few peaks into what will be taking place in class.
- Shott Chair of Journalism Toni Locy will host Mike Tomasky in her Public Affairs Reporting class for a discussion about the impact of the Internet on information availability and reporting public affairs issues.

- Professor Maria Ines Miro-Quesada and her Online Magazine Production class will host Matthew Yglesias for an informal discussion about managing a blog and dealing with journalistic “objectivity when blogging.

Journalism Week Curriculum
- Professor John Temple will be discussing journalism ethics related to the use of the in JRL 489: Media Issues and Ethics.
- Dr. George Esper will host Ivy Guiler as a guest speaker, who will speak on media convergence and the use of digital and online technologies to report the news, in his American Journalism History.
- Dr. Steve Urbanski’s Copy Editing and Make-Up class will design ads for the Student Competitions as part of a communication design exercise.
- Professor Bonnie Stewart’s Media Writing students will also design ads for the Student Competitions. Students will meet as focus groups to discuss the topic and conduct interviews. Survey data will be tallied and lead the development of concepts for the designs.
